New Economy Strategy
calgary+newsroom+Our economy Engagement on the path forward

The economic strategy, Calgary in the New Economy, was created three years ago for the community, by the community. It is a “living” strategy and to ensure that it addresses the evolving economic conditions and challenges, Calgarians are asked to share their insight on the city’s path forward.

The challenges of COVID-19 were a test for Calgary in the New Economy but more than year into the pandemic it appears to be the right strategy for our economic recovery amid a digital transformation across all industries.

The evolution of the strategy will strengthen our resilience and help ensure Calgarians have a sense of ownership in the vision for our future, are empowered to achieve it, and can be proud ambassadors of the city to Canada and the world.

As part of our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, Calgary Economic Development hopes to reach as many Calgarians and community groups as possible. The engagement and outreach will take place throughout the summer, starting with a short survey.

Please share this survey in your community and professional networks to help ensure the feedback we receive is representative of all Calgarians. All Calgarians are contributors to our economic future and we can work together to create opportunities for all.

The vision of Calgary in the New Economy is to be the city of choice for the world’s best entrepreneurs who embrace technology to solve the world’s greatest challenges: cleaner energy, safe and secure food, efficient movement of goods and people, and better health solutions.

Calgary Economic Development is the steward of the economic strategy, Calgary in the New Economy, and collaborates with business, government and community partners to advance opportunities in achieving economic success, embracing shared prosperity and building a strong community.
