In a packed room filled with enthused members of the Calgary gaming community, New World Interactive announced they had chosen Calgary as the home for their third office.

A game-development company founded in 2010, New World Interactive has created three well known and acclaimed games: Insurgency, Day of Infamy, and most recently Insurgency: Sandstorm.

While looking for their next location, Keith Warner, President of New World Interactive, said Calgary wasn’t on his radar until a colleague brought it up. Then there were four Canadian cities in the running. After his visit to Toronto, Warner told his team “We are going to Toronto unless Calgary blows me away.”

Spoiler alert – Calgary blew him away.

Warner explains it was the quality of life, cost of living, turn-key office space and the people that made Calgary stand out above the rest. Calgary is a city of endless opportunities. Warner summarized the level of support and openness he received from Calgary Economic Development and all members of the community who helped in this process.

“I was in Calgary for a short time and needed recommendations for a dentist, I sent seven emails asking people for recommendations. In no time, not only did I receive seven thoughtful replies but THREE of the dentists called me personally to ask what I needed help with. They had their dentists call me… I mean who does that? What kind of people go so above and beyond? Well the people in Calgary!"

New World Interactive will be landing in Calgary on April 1, 2019, with plans of being operational by May 15, 2019. The team has formed a partnership with Thin Air Labs to further catalyze and support Calgary’s gaming ecosystem and insurgence of start ups.

They project to hire for 15 new roles in Calgary by the end of the year. Committed to hiring qualified, local talent, they also foresee that number of jobs growing to 60 as they build up the office in Calgary.

An announcement met by great enthusiasm, local companies and organizations are ready to build off this momentum and work together to grow the gaming sector in our city.
