Technology is a focus of many organizations seeking to navigate an increasingly uncertain world, to reduce costs and to gain a competitive advantage.

That’s where business services and consulting firm KPMG is making a difference.

“We like to refer to ourselves as a stealth technology-enabled business integrator,” says Kathy Penner, partner and national leader for technology enterprise solutions and services at KPMG in Canada.

Penner, based in Calgary, leads a growing team of business and technical professionals across the country that has doubled in size through the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We help clients leverage cloud technologies to anchor the growth and efficiencies they are seeking, beginning with the customer experience, operations, through to HR, finance and beyond,” she says.

“We bring strong capabilities across a spectrum of digital and cloud technologies including Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, Salesforce, ServiceNow and Workday supported by industry and functional experience.”

Narmin Vasanji, a partner in KPMG’s management consulting practice and the geographic lead for the Prairies, aids in this by helping public and private sector clients across Western Canada solve business challenges and increase efficiencies by using technology.

“For example, a client could implement new mobile technology to automate operations in the field that are better connected with its project costing, accounting and payroll functions,” says Vasanji. “Once that goes into operation, the business will have visibility of near-time costing and project progress to make better decisions.”

“Yet, every client’s journey is unique,” Penner adds.

“Energy sector clients might use data analytics to inform net-zero initiatives while a financial services client may be more focused on reinforcing IT infrastructure against cybersecurity threats,” says Penner.

And KPMG is a trusted technology guide, providing comprehensive services from beginning to end.

“We also support clients needing extra help managing specific applications post implementation,” Vasanji says.

As a born-and-raised Calgarian, Vasanji is proud to be building a Calgary-based delivery centre for managed services.

“We continue to focus on managed service offerings and growing our technology consulting teams in Calgary, which will result in 250 new jobs over the next three years.”

KPMG’s impact in Calgary extends beyond its client base, she adds. The multinational firm is a key employer in Calgary and strives to support the city’s next crop of tech talent.

“KPMG is proud to be part of the Platform Calgary ecosystem, which is all about fostering technology innovation in our city,” Penner says. “Whether it’s supporting the broader community or our clients, KPMG’s goal is not just helping others leverage technology to transform but, rather, to flourish and be successful for the long term.”
