flag japanJapan is a key overseas economic partner for Alberta, accounting for 15 per cent of non-U.S. exports. These exports include canola seed, coal, pork, wheat and chemical woodpulp. Several Alberta municipalities are twinned with Japanese counterparts and Alberta has a sister province relationship with the Prefecture of Hokkaido. Japan and Canada are signatories to the Trans Pacific Partnership agreement and are currently negotiating a TPP 11 with the other signatories after the withdrawal of the U.S.
