Encouraging the adoption of flexible work practices may not seem like a new concept, but in 2009 when Calgary Economic Development launched WORKshift as a regional program, it was a critical path for the workplaces of the future and a competitive advantage for Calgary.
As the first and only not-for-profit organization in Canada dedicated to changing the way people work, WORKshift became a trusted brand by both cities and employers in creating tangible change in mobile work. With the support of organizations like KPMG, WORKshift expanded to become one of Canada's leading authorities on the benefits and implementation of flexible work programs for organizations of all sizes.
With the success of this program, Calgary Economic Development has now transitioned its WORKshift program to KPMG's People and Change practice. Calgary-based Vario Ventures supported the acquisition and valuation of WORKshift.
Vario Ventures is a boutique mergers and acquisition firm that specializes in companies with values of $1M to $20M. Vario Ventures provides a unique approach to valuation based on current performance and unexplored growth potential, and focuses on supporting entrepreneurs through the entire process to build strategic exit targets. “Every business is unique, but small and medium companies face specific challenges in valuing their business. Vario appreciates the opportunity to work with entrepreneurs and share the risk of closing a successful transaction.” Danny Way, CEO for Vario Ventures.
"This is an exciting time for WORKshift. The combination of the WORKshift products and research with KMPG's deep professional experience will help accelerate the adoption of flexible work programs across the country. Further, this happens at a time when the Federal government has recommitted to making flexible work more accessible for Canadians." Robyn Bews, former Executive Director of WORKshift.
KPMG's People and Change practice helps companies drive business value and achieve strategic goals through the optimization of both their people and workforce agenda. KMPG will assume the assets of WORKshift – the products, research and brand.
