This year, Calgary Folk Music Festival organizers are working with an Inglewood restaurant to build buzz, and funds, for the annual event.

The festival’s Under Your Hat 2016 event on April 26 includes fabulous food, a silent auction and a party featuring a sneak peek at the 2016 folk fest lineup plus a private concert by The Sadies.

The evening starts at The Nash and Off Cut Bar, 925 11th St. S.E., before winding up at nearby Festival Hall, 1215 10th Ave. S.E.

The party is also being used as a fundraiser for the festival.

“We are so excited to have alternative-country rockers The Sadies play Under Your Hat this year,” says folk fest development director Sara Leishman. “The fact that we are able to present them at Festival Hall, which is such an intimate venue, is going to result in magic. Of course, the food is always a highlight. Chef Michael Noble and the team at The Nash have put together an incredible menu of hors d’oeuvres and a signature cocktail and an exclusive cask from Big Rock Brewery.”

Events like this, however, don’t happen without the support and enthusiasm of local businesses and other community-minded visionaries, says Leishman.

“Since we are neighbours with folk fest there is a super alignment in supporting them to fund this important event and to keep it alive and vibrant,” says Noble, the proprietor of The Nash.

“This is what the city needs— fuel. And in a time when my natural action would be to constrict, I think it is so much more important to stay open and continue to practice giving to the community. “We have no control over the economy, but we do have control over participating in our community and ensuring that each and every moment is simply the best that we can give.”

“Under Your Hat showcases the power of partnership between local business and the arts which helps strengthen Calgary’s cultural fabric,” says Leishman. Tickets for Under Your Hat cost $200 and include meal, refreshments, concert and a $100 tax receipt. The doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 8:30 p.m.
