We are home to 115 head offices and have more patents per capita in the country. We’ve also got the second-highest concentration of self-employed people of major cities in Canada. A business-friendly environment and an emphasis on lifestyle and community makes us the perfect place for you to make a living––and a life.
We’re moving up in the polls
Not only are we one of the most liveable cities in the world, we are also the best city in Canada for your career, according to Movinga. Calgary ranks third overall in the world when it comes to finding a job. The study looks at three areas: economic environment, standard of living, and equal opportunities for age and gender categories. Out of 100 major world cities, Calgary came in third after Boston and Munich. (Vancouver was 25 and Toronto landed at 48.) And The Economist’s global liveability index gave Calgary top marks in stability, health care, education, and infrastructure - ranking it fourth in the world.
Innovation is addictive––and rewarding
We’re a city full of big ideas and a flourishing entrepreneurial spirit. We’ve created tax incentives for businesses opening up Calgary offices, funded more education for STEAM (formally referred to as STEM) fields at post-secondary institutions within the city, and created grant opportunities for companies doing innovative things. In December 2018, we announced Calgary-based robotics company ATTAbotics Inc. will receive up to $4.5 million to expand operations in the city, through our Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund.
More industries are gaining ground in Calgary, with a lot of support. Industries like tech, agribusiness, manufacturing, transportation and logistics, and creative industries are just some of our established and emerging sectors. In 2017, $180 million in film, TV, and commercial productions was made in Calgary. And Statistics Canada says Calgary is the fastest-growing tech talent market in the country, with a 55% increase in private tech companies over the last four years.
Our lifestyle is unbeatable
We have many natural parks, the longest urban pathway in North America, and community-driven breweries opening up constantly. Plus, Calgary hosts hundreds of festivals and events each year, and supports a thriving arts and entertainment scene.
