The BEST Challenge, created by Emissions Reduction Alberta, is a new funding opportunity for innovations related to biotechnology, electricity and sustainable transportation.
This initiative is looking for technologies that help Alberta’s lower-carbon economy. Innovators with scale-up, demonstration and first-of-kind implementation technology projects that have the potential to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in our province are invited to apply for this fund.
Recipients of the BEST Challenge fund will receive funding for up to 50 per cent of the project’s eligible expenses. The fund is offering up to $10 million per project, with a total of up to $70 million. This is funded through the Climate Change and Emissions Management Fund.
Steve MacDonald, Chief Executive Officer of Emissions Reduction Alberta, believes the fund will have great benefit for all Albertans.
"Successful projects will reduce GHG’s, accelerate scale-up of new value-added products and services that support economic growth and environmental leadership on a local, national and global scale.”
Emissions Reduction Alberta is following the lead of Government of Alberta initiatives such as Alberta’s Climate Leadership Plan and the Climate Change Innovation and Technology Framework and works as a key partner in addressing Alberta’s Climate Leadership priorities.
The deadline to apply for the BEST Challenge is September 13, 2018 at 5 p.m. (MDT).
