Entrepreneurs Jill Vos and Jennifer Carlson are turning babies across Canada into happy, healthy little foodies with great tasting organic meals and snacks.

Launched from Jen’s kitchen in Calgary over a decade ago after she saw the strained green beans that passed for baby food for her six-month-old daughter, they took Baby Gourmet from local farmers’ markets to a national brand with 30 per cent market share.

Today, Baby Gourmet feeds 18 million wholesome meals to babies across Canada annually. The company is Canada’s leading brand of organic meals and snacks that children love and moms can feel good about.

It speaks to the local entrepreneurial energy, abundantly evident in Jen and Jill, that they’ve created a leading household consumer packaged goods brand in Calgary.

Baby Gourmet has been an innovator since the outset. It was first to market with a flexible, re-sealable pouch rather than a jar which means more nutritious and better tasting food. Rather than typical baby food recipes they also opted for gourmet with high-quality ingredients to create delicious, wholesome food. 

The pair still create every product from Baby Gourmet and say they use “motherly instincts” to decide which flavours to use.

Baby Gourmet has expanded into the toddlers’ snacking category under the Squoosh brand and the kids’ snacking category under Organic Slammers. Among the numerous awards the company has received, in 2014 the Baby Gourmet Plus Product Line won The Canadian Retail Grocery Council’s Annual Grand Prix Award For Most Innovative Product.
