The City of Calgary provides safe reliable drinking water to over one million Calgarians and the surrounding communities of Airdrie and Chestermere. Two Water Treatment Plants and a complex network of underground pipes, water mains, reservoirs and pump stations delivery this valuable resource to our customers each day.
The Wastewater system protects the public health and the environment by collecting and treating wastewater from residences, schools, hospitals, businesses and industries. Wastewater enters the system through sinks, toilets, bathtubs and major appliances where it travels through underground pipe before arriving at one of two Wastewater Treatment Plants for treatment.
Waste & Recycling Services is responsible for the management of waste & recycling in The City of Calgary, which is moving Calgary towards recycling 80 per cent of waste by 2020.
Alberta's electricity system is owned and operated by a mix of investor-owned and municipally owned companies, not by the Alberta government. To ensure Albertans of a long-term, reliable supply of competitively priced electricity, Alberta Energy develops, supports and monitors the framework for bringing new generation on-line, competitive electricity markets, and efficient delivery systems.
The fact that natural gas is one of the cleanest, cheapest and most efficient sources of energy makes it a necessary component of an environmentally-friendly economy. Alberta is home to a large natural gas resource base and accounts for just over 80 per cent of the natural gas produced in Canada.
