Calgary is serviced by one International Airport and one Regional Airport.
The Calgary International Airport (YYC) continues to be Alberta's premier international passenger and cargo gateway to the world, welcoming 12.2 million passengers in 2009. The terminal building boasts over 125 shops, restaurants and services, as well as a 296 room four star Delta Hotel and a space-themed visitor attraction - Spaceport. Over 15,000 people are part of the airport community.
Over $1 billion has been invested since 1992 to renovate and expand airport infrastructure and in early 2011, YYC will break ground on the largest expansion project the airport has ever seen. The Airport Development Project (ADP) includes the construction of a new Runway and International Concourse. The ADP will contribute approximately 10.5 million hours of employment to the Calgary economy and will significantly enhance the existing $6 billion value-added GDP contribution Calgary International Airport makes to the local economy. The ADP will be essential for YYC's continued growth and development, enabling the airport to keep up with projected passenger volumes, which are expected to increase as the Canadian and global economy begins to rebound in 2010.
Springbank Airport (YBW) is a certified aerodrome and the most significant general aviation airport in the Calgary Region. Located in Rocky View County, just west of the city of Calgary and north of the Trans Canada Highway, YBW operates as a reliever airport to the Calgary International Airport and is the closest certiied airport to Cochrane, Canmore, Kananaskis County and Banff National Park.
