Building permit values for The City of Calgary for 2011 came in at $4.54 billion, up 56 per cent from the 2010 figure of $2.91 billion. The five-year average for building permits values was $4.12 billion (2007-2011), while the ten-year average was $3.58 billion (2002-2011).

New construction activity remained steady in 2011 as total housing starts increased by 0.3 per cent to 9,292 units, from 9,262 units in 2010.
