Small business microsite helps Calgary companies;

Local knowledge can be critical to your businesses' success.

In support of local entrepreneurs and emerging companies, Calgary Economic Development is pleased to team with Calgary tech firm Localintel to launch a small business microsite that provides companies with the relevant information about the local market.

Many small business owners constantly express frustration by the struggle to find reliable local information online. We've launched a Calgary-focused microsite to provide start-up, emerging and small businesses information and advice about identifying local consumers and business opportunities.

“The site is valuable because small business creates almost 90 per cent of all jobs in Canada and they rely on the internet to find information to make better business decisions,” said Court Ellingson, Vice-President, Research & Strategy for Calgary Economic Development.

Calgary has the highest concentration of small businesses of any major city in Canada and the Small Business Microsite is a tool that will provide online information and advice that is easy to access, clear, relevant and up to date.

The microsite is intended to make it easier for small businesses and entrepreneurs to:

  • research their customers and competitors
  • uncover local opportunities
  • even find the best location for their business

Supporting entrepreneurs is a key element of Be Part of the Energy, the 10-year economic strategy for Calgary stewarded by Calgary Economic Development to support ongoing economic growth and diversification.

Localintel is a Calgary company founded in 2015 by Dave Parsell, Mehdi Amoui and Craig Parsell to support economic development and the needs of municipalities as well as small and medium-size businesses. It has backing from the Government of Alberta, through Alberta Innovates, and TECTERRA, an industry investment program.

The microsite was launched in conjunction with small business week 2016 in Calgary and provides users with access to a wide range of educational information and provides essential concepts required to ask the right questions, correctly analyze data and make better business decisions.
