As part of its far-reaching examination of Canada’s immigration model, CBC-TV’s The National recently interviewed Mayor Naheed Nenshi and profiled the impacts of multiculturalism in Calgary.

Nenshi, the son of Tanzanian immigrants, described the impact of far-reaching multiculturalism in a city like Calgary that has the highest proportion of visible minorities among its population in Canada after Toronto and Vancouver. Calgarians represent 240 ethnic origins and identify almost 140 languages as their mother tongue and those global connections are something the city celebrates.
