Calgary has various public recreations facilities, including ten major athletic parks, 310 baseball diamonds, and 285 soccer/football fields. Calgary Parks and Recreation operates regional recreation and leisure centres offering pools, weight rooms, gymnasium access and climbing walls.

U of C Olympic Skating Oval

Located at the University of Calgary, the Olympic Oval welcomes thousands of visitors, athletes and coaches everyday. The Oval has the distinction of having the world's fastest ice. It is a multi-sport training and competition facility, offering 400 m oval track, two international sized ice surfaces (30m x 60m), 450m two-lane running track, 110 m eight-lane sprint track, long jump pit, pole vault box, high performance weight room for elite athletes, regeneration clinic and testing rooms.


Canada Olympic Park

Canada Olympic Park (COP) was a major venue in the 1988 Olympic Winter Games. It hosted the 15th Olympic Winter Games and is now Calgary's premier year-round sport and tourist attraction. COP offers winter programs in skiing and snowboarding, as well as mountain hiking trails in the summer. The park has Canada's only Olympic Bobsleigh/Luge Track. Guided bus tours are also available to learn about Calgary's Olympic heritage.

McMahon Stadium

Originally named in commemoration of the McMahon brothers (George and Frank), the arena holds 36,000 fans with an additional 100 wheelchair accessible spots, 500 private seats and 1,000 person banquet room. Now owned and operated by the University of Calgary, it is a self-sufficient arena hosting ten professional teams, six university teams, and roughly 400 amateur organizations totaling some 500-600 events each year. It also hosted the closing ceremonies at the 1988 Winter Olympic Games in Calgary.

The Pengrowth Saddledome

The Pengrowth Saddledome is Calgary's leader for entertainment excitement seating over 17,000. It is home to the NHL's Calgary Flames, the WHL's Calgary Hitmen and the NLL's Calgary Roughnecks. It has also played host to big ticket concerts, rodeos, ice shows, circuses, conventions and more.
