Calgarians love their parks and make regular use of them. 95% of Calgarians rated their experience with Calgary's park system as satisfied or very satisfied.

The City's Parks Business Unit is responsible for over 7,500 hectares of parks, open spaces, and roadway greens, including Nose Hill Park, one of the largest urban natural green spaces in all of Canada.

City Parks maintains approximately:

  • 7,742 hectares of land in excess of 5,345 sites
  • 925 playgrounds
  • 476 ball diamonds
  • 660 soccer fields
  • 160 tennis courts
  • 272,000 street trees (roughly one street tree for every four Calgarians)
  • 707 km of pathways
  • 120 dog off-leash areas


With approximately 707 km of pathways and 260 km of on-street bikeways within its boundaries, The City of Calgary boasts the most extensive urban pathway and bikeway network in North America. Snow is cleared off 110 km on a priority one basis and 25 km on a priority two basis of the pathway system during the winter months to ensure all-season access for Calgarians. Traveling the entire pathway system would require you to cross 67 bridges. More than 750 signs are posted along the pathways.
