Mexican Independence Day (El Grito De Independencia)

The Calgary-Naucalpan Sister Cities Committee (led by Calgary Economic Development) is pleased to announce EL GRITO DE INDEPENDENCIA, the Fourth Annual Mexican Independence Day Celebration.

This event will be held in partnership with the Mexican Consulate in Calgary, the Calgary Mexican Cultural Society and the Institute of Mexicans Abroad.

Date: September 13, 2008

Time: 4:00 p.m.

Location: Calgary Chinese Cultural Centre in downtown Calgary

Details: After a successful event last year, the celebration for 2008 will include diverse activities, live entertainment, Mexican food, traditional dance folklore and different workshops to expose the Mexican culture to the Canadian and Mexican audience. Live entertainment will include authentic Mexican music of Mariachi as well as Mexican Dancers who will perform traditional folklore from different regions of Mexico. Workshops will include Mexican History storytelling, Spanish language conversation, and Mexican cooking. Authentic Mexican food and drinks will be available for purchase.

As one of the most symbolic components of the program, the celebration will include the official ceremony of “EL GRITO DE INDEPENDENCIA”, a tradition proclaiming Mexico’s independence from Spain, delivered by the Mexican Consul in Calgary.

Calgary Economic Development and its Phoenix and Houston City Committees invite you and your family, to the CAN-AM Celebration, September 19, 2008 , at The Calgary Zoo . This annual family event is an opportunity to bring together the 75,000 Americans living and working in Calgary.
