Occupational Forecast predicts growth in knowledge workers and worker knowledge

Recent occupational demand forecasts for Calgary confirm what mothers have been telling their children for years: study hard and learn as much as you can.

Between today and 2017, an additional 244,000 new jobs could be created in Calgary and a full 60 per cent of those jobs will require college, apprenticeship or university education. Without that level of advanced training and education, we cannot achieve sustainable growth into the future. More >

Building Calgary's Talent

In a vibrant, urban and growing metropolis of more than one million people, Calgary businesses are looking for innovative ways to attract and retain employees. While telework is not a new concept, Calgary Economic Development (CED) is trying to raise the awareness of this somewhat untapped solution to modern day business pressures and provide companies with the tools to develop and implement a successful, efficient and cost-friendly telework program that suits their individual business needs.

Working towards addressing these challenges, CED’s workforce initiative program, CalgaryWorks, hosted Here or There, Embracing Telework, the last forum in the Building Calgary’s Talent series.

Attendants heard from three keynote speakers - Professors Alain Verbeke and Bob Schulz, from the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary, and Ian Gover – open work consultant. Presentations and panel discussion were led by Mark Lang – Human Resources Senior Business Partner, Telus; Suzy Moutinho – Strategic Initiatives program manager, Canadian Pacific Railways; and Nicole Springer – General Counsel and HR director, Axia NetMedia.
